A leading voice for civets and their relatives, championing research, welfare and a fairer future for viverrids.
About Civet Project
The Civet Project is a charity dedicated to civets and their wider family of viverrids, combining research, advocacy and education to improve their conservation and welfare.
Civets are among the most overlooked animals in conservation. Many species have barely been studied, and some may be slipping towards extinction before they are even recognised as at risk. The charity sets out to change that, speaking up for a family of animals that rarely gets a voice.
Much of its attention falls on civet coffee, a luxury product that depends on keeping wild civets captive in conditions that cause real suffering. Through investigations, reports and film, the project has worked to expose this trade and to hold retailers and the wider coffee industry to account.
Its work rests on three foundations: original research to understand the threats civets face, outreach that encourages healthier relationships between people and civets, and direct support for conservation and welfare, both in the wild and in human care. Named initiatives include Stop Civet Coffee Tourism, the Civet Free professional pledge, Civet One Health, World Civet Day and Night Roamers, a citizen science camera-trapping project, alongside education events and ambassador training.
At heart, the charity is about widening the circle of empathy to include animals most people never think about, and challenging the businesses that profit from their mistreatment. Supporting it funds research, awareness and practical protection for civets and their relatives. ecoflix is pleased to help amplify that effort.
