Rescuing and rehabilitating elephants in Asia and Africa toward kinder coexistence with people.
About Gentle Giants Elephants
Gentle Giants Elephants is a US charity, founded in 2020, working for the welfare and conservation of Asian and African elephants alongside the communities and caretakers who depend on them.
The charity was born of an emergency. When the pandemic stopped tourism in Thailand, hundreds of captive elephants and the families who care for them were suddenly left without the income to feed themselves, and many had to make the long walk home with nowhere to turn. Gentle Giants stepped in to help, and has kept going ever since.
Its focus is both Asian and African elephants, and its approach is collaborative rather than confrontational. Working with elephant owners, mahouts and local communities, and in partnership with Lek Chailert of the Save Elephant Foundation, it looks for a more harmonious coexistence, one where caretakers can earn a sustainable living and elephants can stay and thrive in their own habitats.
Over its first few years the charity has supported more than 165 elephants and many human families. Its named programmes include Ele-Celebration Cakes providing food support, an Elephant Prosthetics Fund for injured animals, corporate and shelter sponsorship, and the rehabilitation of African orphans with the long-term aim of returning them to the wild.
Its philosophy is summed up as no one left behind: change driven by communities, and a shared responsibility for elephant welfare across two continents. Supporting this work helps feed and treat elephants in need and sustain the people who look after them. ecoflix is pleased to stand with them.
