About Ocean Conservancy

Ocean Conservancy is a global non-profit, headquartered in Washington, D.C., that unites science, people and policy to protect the ocean for generations to come.

The ocean produces around half the world's oxygen, absorbs most of the excess heat driven by climate change and sustains millions of species and billions of people. Yet it is not indestructible. Plastic pollution, habitat loss and a warming climate are straining ocean health, and Ocean Conservancy works to confront those threats with practical, evidence-based solutions.

For more than fifty years the organisation has paired rigorous science with policy and public action, positioning itself as a trusted source for decision-makers at every level of government. It builds coalitions and pushes for change that addresses root causes, while also mobilising people directly through volunteering and community-led action.
