About The Gorilla Organization

The Gorilla Organization is a UK charity, rooted in the anti-poaching work begun by Dr Dian Fossey, dedicated to saving the world's last wild gorillas.

Gorillas are among our closest living relatives, yet they stand on the brink. The charity points out that the vast majority of wild gorillas are just one step from extinction, with mountain gorillas the most endangered of all and only around a thousand of them left. Habitat loss, deforestation, poaching, disease and the upheaval of conflict all threaten their survival.

The organisation traces its origins to the early 1990s and the anti-poaching patrols established by primatologist Dr Dian Fossey. Today it works where gorillas live, with teams across Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as the UK.
