rescuing captive wolves and wolfdogs, then turning those bonds into healing and growth for people
About Wolf Connection
Wolf Connection is a California wolf sanctuary that rescues captive wolves and wolfdogs and channels their stories into programmes helping people rediscover confidence, purpose and belonging.
Two problems sit at the heart of this work. Wolves and wolfdogs bred for private ownership are frequently abandoned, neglected or abused once the reality of keeping them sets in, leaving animals with nowhere to go. At the same time, many people, especially young people who have been through hardship, carry a deep sense of isolation and disconnection from themselves, from others and from the natural world.
From a 165-acre site in the mountains above Los Angeles, the organisation cares for a rescued pack and builds its programmes around the relationship between people and these animals. Its signature Wolf Therapy approach uses direct, supervised encounters to help participants find steadier communication, self-belief and a sense of place within something larger.
Programmes reach foster and at-risk youth, veterans, women's groups and corporate teams, supported by public visits, a podcast and online learning that carry the message wider. The rescued wolves become ambassadors, helping to overturn centuries of fear and misunderstanding about a much-maligned animal.
The charity frames its purpose around three ideas: rescuing animals in need, activating a sense of belonging, and making a lasting difference for both wolves and people. Support provides lifelong sanctuary care and opens these experiences to those who stand to gain the most from them.
