About Beaver Trust
Beaver Trust is a UK nature restoration charity working to bring beavers back to Britain's rivers and use their wetland-building to regenerate landscapes.
Beavers once shaped the waterways of Britain, but centuries of hunting wiped them out, and with them went the rich wetland habitats they create. As the country faces intertwined climate and nature crises, the loss of these ecosystem engineers matters more than ever. Beaver Trust, established in 2019, sets out to restore them and the freshwater habitats and species that depend on them.
The charity describes beavers as keystone species whose dams and ponds slow water, create wetlands and build more climate-resilient catchments. Its work pairs ambition with practicality: reintroduction and restoration services, alongside genuine support for landowners and farmers in coexisting with beavers, so that bringing the animals back works for people too.
Beyond restoration, the team draws on expertise in ecology and land management to share knowledge widely. It engages policymakers on the legislation needed to let beavers spread responsibly, runs education resources and an online hub, tracks populations across the UK, and reaches wider audiences through films, podcasts and case studies. Recent milestones include new beaver families settling into restored habitat.
